CALL to ACTION
Our CMEA sponsored legislation, AB 2862, is moving to the Assembly for a floor vote. It was passed out of the Suspense file this morning. This was our #1 "Ask" at the recent Stand Up 4 Music Advocacy Day on April 19, and our efforts were successful! Now we need to take the next step which is a groundswell of support from throughout the state.
I ask ALL CMEA members to contact your state legislators and urge a "yes" vote on AB 2862 (O'Donnell) for Standards updating and SB 916 (Allen) for Credentials for Theatre and Dance teachers.
For a quick way to find your legislators you can go to:
(you can google "contacting your California Legislators").
This will show you your Assemblymember and Senator. Click on the link and it will go to their websites. You will find contact information there.
Best way to contact is a phone call or fax. Letters delivered by mail are also good, but this may be on the floor for a vote next week, so call or fax if at all possible.
Remember that you contact your Assemblymember for our Standards Bill AB 2862 and your Senator for the Theatre and Dance Credential SB 916.
Now is the time for ALL Stand Up 4 Music Coalition members, Parents, and Students, to join in Music Education Advocacy by making these contacts and urging a YES vote on AB 2862 and SB 916.
Thank you for your participation in this process. We will keep you updated as to the status on our fb page and twitter account, as well as on the websites for CMEA and SU4M.
